Now that February is over, it is likely that the local weather will trend warmer and nicer. Spring is coming soon.
It’s not that winter is bad. It’s just cold and, at times, bleak and depressing. The trees are bare. The grass is a pale greenish brown. The air is dry.
I look forward to those few spring days when the temperature stays in the mid 60’s. Flowers bloom. The days get longer.
The one drawback is the whole “spring forward” thing. Losing an hour on a Sunday morning isn’t the worse time to have time arbitrarily stolen from you, but it does throw a wrench in the game. Sometimes literally.
Imagine having an amateur sports match on a Sunday morning and having to forfeit said match because half of your team “forgot” about the time change. I bet someone, somewhere got so angry that all he could do was throw a box of tools on the playing field. Perhaps a monkey wrench would have fallen out. A wrench in the game. I bet this has happened several times, in several different locales, given the randomness of events and the sheer vastness of time and space.
As a public service to you, please know that Daylight Savings Time begins at 2:00 am on March 11, 2012. There is still time to plan.
