I love a nice outing.
A trip to the mall. A walk in the park. A stroll through Target.
Since Ivy has entered our life, outings are different. A simple trip to Starbucks requires a laundry list of preparation. Is the diaper bag fully stocked? Which stroller are we taking? What is the temperature outside? When did Ivy last eat? Usually the last thing on my mind is what I’d like to order. Although, of late, my beverage of choice is a tall coffee-of-the-day, black.
On days home with Ivy (like yesterday), an outing served as a welcome afternoon activity, after her nap and lunch. I can only do Cookie Monster’s voice for so long until I start hurting myself.
I see public places differently, too. Namely, I find that I gravitate toward the shops, restaurants, and facilities that have changing tables. Prompt service is also a plus.
Ivy enjoys when I play the guitar for her. Although, even more, she likes putting her hand over the sound hole, preventing any real tone from escaping. I guess, to her, the guitar is a big wooden toy. When I think about it though, a guitar is a big wooden toy to me, too.
Ivy returns to daycare today. She’s been fever free for 48 hours and is back to her normal, cheery, inquisitive self. We probably won’t have any outings together until Sunday.
Until then, it’s time to make music.
